MRI vs CT Scan: What Is the Difference?
Many people get confused between MRI and CT scans. Both are imaging tests used to look inside the body, but they work in different ways.
CT Scan
A CT (Computed Tomography) scan uses X-rays to create detailed images of bones, lungs, and internal organs. CT scans are usually fast and are often used in emergencies, trauma, stroke, chest, and abdominal examinations.
MRI Scan
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan uses a strong magnet and radio waves to create images. MRI is excellent for seeing soft tissues such as the brain, spine, joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves.
Main Difference
CT Scan = X-rays + Fast imaging
MRI = Magnet + Better soft tissue detail
Which One Is Better?
There is no single "best" scan. Doctors choose the test depending on the patient's condition.
CT: Better for bones, lungs, fractures, bleeding, and emergency cases.
MRI: Better for the brain, spine, joints, muscles, ligaments, and soft tissues.
Final Thought
Both CT and MRI are important medical imaging tools that help doctors diagnose diseases accurately and plan the right treatment.
