 An MRI lower limb venogram is a specialized imaging study used to evaluate the veins in the legs, from the pelvis down to the feet. It helps assess venous blood flow, look for blockages, clots, or venous insufficiency, and evaluate varicose veins or vascular malformations.

What It Shows:

1. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) – clots in deep leg veins like the femoral, popliteal, or iliac veins.

2. Venous insufficiency – where blood flows backward due to faulty valves.

3. Venous stenosis or compression – narrowed or squeezed veins (e.g., May-Thurner syndrome).

4. Varicose veins or superficial venous disease

5. Vascular tumors or malformations

How It Works:

• Performed in an MRI machine.

• A contrast agent (gadolinium) is often injected through an IV to enhance the visibility of blood vessels.

• Sequences are taken to specifically highlight venous structures.

• Both deep and superficial venous systems are assessed.
