🦴 Cartilage in the Knee Joint

The knee joint contains too main types of cartilage:

1. Articular (Hyaline) Cartilage

  • Location: Covers the ends of femur, tibia, and back of patella.

  • Function:

    • Smooth surface for low-friction joint movement

    • Shock absorption

    • Protects bones from wear

2. Meniscus (Fibrocartilage)
  • Medial and Lateral Menisci:

    • C-shaped pads between femur and tibia

    • Made of tough fibrocartilage

  • Function:

    • Cushion and stabilize the knee

    • Distribute body weight

    • Absorb shock
